Presentation Skills
- Delivery of a pre-prepared presentation on a topic chosen by the delegate, relevant to their work.
N.B. The duration of each delegate presentation will depend on the length of the course and the number of participants. Eight is the ideal number of participants
- Comprehensive one-to-one and group feedback
Preparing a Presentation
- Questions for the presenter to consider in advance:
- Why me?
- Logistics of what, where, when, how – and how long?
- Understanding how the answers to these questions influence the structure of the presentation
- Structuring the content:
- Research – know the subject thoroughly
- Organising the content logically
- Creating and using complementary visual aids
Preparing the Presenter
- A presenter's three fundamental communication tools:
- Verbal – the words used, avoiding slang and jargon
- Vocal – the sound of the words, avoiding distracting verbal tics and awkward pauses
- Visual – the presenter's appearance: attire, mannerisms, and overall presence
- Rehearsing the presentation and obtaining honest feedback from a trusted source
- Managing nerves
Preparing the Environment
- Room layouts – and how they convey underlying messages to the audience
- Using the room to enhance the overall presentation experience
Presentation Skills – Revisited
- Delivery of another presentation (after adequate preparation time).
N.B. This may be the same presentation as in Module 1, but refined following detailed feedback
